CONSTITUTION FOR
THE CHORUS OF POLES

Marta Górnicka gathered over 50 people from both “left” and “right” wings of the political conflict in Poland: NOWY TEATR ACTORS, FOOTBALL FANS, THE STRZELEC GUN ASSOCIATION, CHRISTIANS, VIETNAMESE, JEWS, THE CHORUS OF WOMEN, MUSLIMS, REFUGEES, PEOPLE WITH DOWN SYNDROME, PENSIONERS, CHILDREN. The show premiered on the 1st of May 2016 i.e. the International Worker’s Day, during great national debate caused by the turmoil surrounding the Constitutional Tribunal. “Marta Górnicka reacted to this crisis with a powerful gesture: she showed that Polish constitution is not a project of an ethnically homogeneous group, but very diverse group of individuals.”

CONSTITUTION FOR THE CHORUS OF POLES was also performed 2’nd of September 2017 at Plac Defilad, in the front of the Palace of Culture and Since in Warsaw, at the open air.

Whose 'Polish values' are Mine? or Yours? What is taking freedom away from us? Is there any US?

WHY THE CONSTITUTION?

Because it concerns all of us, even though we may have completely different opinions about it.
Because today we are constantly referring to it – to defend it, to demand its change, to violate it, or to protect it.
Because it is our pride. And our shame.
Because it is our FUNDAMENTAL LAW.

Who will be reading it?
CHORUS OF POLES.
NOWY TEATR ACTORS, LEGIA FOOTBALL FANS, VIETNAMESE, CHORUS OF WOMEN, THE STRZELEC GUN ASSOCIATION, JEWISH WOMEN, CHILDREN, TEATR 21 ACTORS, MUSLIMS, REFUGEES, PENSIONERS

We do not intend to show that we can sing in unison. We will create a choir which will speak with a variety of voices. A choir of different registers.

OPEN LETTER TO POLISH SOCIETY

Dear Society,
How are you? How are you doing? We are asking because your life has
recently accelerated a great deal. A lot has been going about you. As you
know, in theatre we often address you and talk about you a lot. And even we
speak on your behalf. A lot of words have been revolving around you with an
ever greater velocity, load and striking distance. The Polish-Polish war with
words, so they say.
HOMELAND, TRUTH, NATION, CITIZEN, ENEMY, PATRIOT, TRAITOR,
EVERYONE, CONSTITUTION. And impossible to talk using ammunition.

Whose “Polish values” are Mine? or Yours? What is taking freedom away from
us? Is there any US?
We want to ask you about it, Society. We want to ask about it in the theatre.
So this time WE ARE INVITING YOU onstage to read the Constitution

(libretto)
CHORUS OF POLES:

(solo)
“The Republic of Poland is a commonwealth of (CHOIR) ALL citizens.
The Republic of Poland is a commonwealth of all (CHOIR) CITIZENS
EVERYONE shall respect the freedoms and rights of (solos) OTHER, OTHER,
OTHER, OTHER OTHER OTHER OTHER OTHER. OTHER OTHER OTHER OTHER.
OTHER OTHER OTHER OTHER. OTHER OTHER OTHER OTHER. OTHER OTHER

OTHER OTHER OTHER OTHER OTHER OTHER OTHER OTHER OTHER OTHER OTHER OTHER OTHER OTHER OTHER OTHER

The colours of the Republic of Poland are white and red

-WHITE
-RED
-WHITE

WHITE! RED! INVINCIBLE! COLOURS!”

What do you think, Society? Fun, huh? Words are there to be spoken.
Will you drop by? Let’s talk.

And if you do not want Homeland? Then add some spice and eat it.

Join us!
Lets read the CONSTITUTION together.
