SILENT SCREAM – A MASTERCLASS BY MARTA GÓRNICKA AT WIENER FEST, 06.06.2026
Silent scream
A masterclass by MARTA GÓRNICKA
Other than silence, the “silent scream” describes a suffocating experience between resistance and powerlessness, that many people share in the tensions of a today’s polarized societies. Despite it all, can we find the courage and strength to open up and listen attentively to ourselves and to one another? In her masterclass, Marta Górnicka invites participants to explore and train their voices and bodies as creative tools of CHORUS theater. Through the transformative power of choral community practice, we manage to form a vocal body from a diversity of individuals in order to speak together and to listen differently. Theater thus becomes a space of solidarity for expressing what often goes unheard at the margins of public discourse, where what separates us from each other and what we have in common becomes voiced.
Marta Górnicka is known for her unique CHORUS theater, in which the voices and bodies of the performers come into play – individually and collectively – as powerful instruments of political expression. Through a variety of choral formats, Górnicka and her choirs confront social injustices, monstrous realities, as well as patterns of marginalization and silencing. The CHORUS manifests itself as a place of polyphonic expression, listening and resonance. The stage becomes a platform for members of different communities to meet as human beings in an active discourse about conflicts and potential solutions, raising their voices together.
